Did you know that Heaven is very green and rocky?

Four years ago my family spent two weeks in heaven.  You may know it by its earthly name, IRELAND, but we know it is really heaven.  In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, I invite you to travel back there with me by revisiting 15 posts from my old blog.  Relax, take your time, and enjoy your visit!

How to become a bathing beauty in 12 easy steps

I have a tutorial to offer you today, and the lovely and talented Haley has graciously agreed to serve as our instructor.

We begin with Step 1:  Relax and just be your natural, fabulously beautiful self.

Steps 2-5:  Gradually move toward the water, playfully drawing ever nearer.

Steps 6-10:  Casually step/kneel/sit in the water, gasp at how shockingly cold it is, and then just GO FOR IT.

Steps 11-12:  Laugh because you not only have survived hypothermia but also somehow look even more radiant than before.

Easy as pie!  Who’s next?

Did these just happen or were they … wonderfully made?

With Your very own hands You formed me;

now breathe Your wisdom over me

so I can understand You.

How long?

Since last Thursday I’ve been down with the flu.  It took me a few days to fully realize it was the honest-to-goodness flu, probably because I was aimlessly staggering from bed to couch to bed in a world that felt like this:

But then today, Day 5, this happened:

This development has been good, in that I’m beginning to make sense out of my world again and find tiny reasons to hope for better things to come.

It has also been startling to my nervous system — things seem to keep popping out of the fuzzy background and shaking me awake. I wonder how and when I will ever function somewhat normally again.

And now my arms are exhausted from typing.

Every now and then

I don’t know about you, but every now and then I just have to take a break from my daily routine.

Every now and then I need to stop looking at people through my camera lens and instead look at … not people.

Every now and then I just need to wander around noticing lines and rust and shadows.

Every now and then it does me good to look straight up and click the shutter without worrying that it might not be a flattering angle.

Every now and then I like to simply document how nicely things are constructed, even after they’ve passed their prime.

Every now and then I need to treat myself to linger on delicate details that are normally overlooked when a person is in the shot.

Every now and then it does my heart good to suddenly look around and realize I’m standing in an unexpected sanctuary.

Every now and then it’s so very very nice to photograph in full sunlight and not cause my subject to squint uncomfortably.

Every now and then I delight in geometric forms and repeated patterns …

… and then shift my gaze to notice that those old forms run parallel to their newer replacements.

Every now and then I am met with disappointment and prevented from exploring as much as I’d like, but that’s when it helps to have a fellow creative thinker along for the adventure.

And every now and then I can no longer resist a smiling face and gladly slip right back into portrait photographer mode.

Every now and then I take time to recharge and play a bit.  I definitely need to do this more often.

Senior Season 2014

It’s that time of year again!  For the next few months I’ll be traipsing all about the countryside with beautiful young people who are counting down the days until graduation.  Most of them will be high school seniors, but I’m hoping to have a few college grads as well.

If you are one of those prospective grads (or you happen to know one you’d like to have photographed), give me a call and let’s get you in front of my camera!  This year I’m offering two different types of sessions:  a 30-minute Standard Session or a 1+-hour Extended Session.  Check out options and pricing here.  We can shoot locally or head to a location outside of Brazoria County for an additional fee.  AND session fees are good for up to 6 people, so we can either focus exclusively on you or friends can come along and split the session with you!

I’ll be wrapping up all senior sessions by April 19, so DO NOT DILLY-DALLY.

Since I just finished editing the lovely Becca’s gallery, I’ll begin by sharing some of my favorites from her Extended Session.  We found all sorts of interesting places to shoot, and she lit up every single one of them.

I can’t wait to work with YOU and mark this special milestone!

Meet Dixie!  Adorable all on her own, this sweet baby doesn’t yet realize that her name makes her even more so.

Anyone who knows this lady can vouch for that.  She’s pretty adorable herself.

Great-grandma Dixie has passed along all sorts of marvelous qualities to her ever-expanding family.

Most importantly, she’s passed along her tremendous ability to LOVE.

But then there’s also her GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR and TENDER, CALMING TOUCH.

Baby Dixie is the newest, sparkliest jewel in the crown of Momo Dixie and the apple of her mama and daddy’s eyes.

How could she not be?

Oh my, what a wonderful life
